Waiting for Marzano

Over a month ago, I posted a review of Marzano’s IWB research .  My review focused on the outcomes of his research.  Jon Becker did an excellent, more in-depth review that focused on the methods that Marzano used to conduct his research.

Here is a link to Marzano’s Research

Here is Becker’s Review; Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV, and Part V

After reading Jon’s review, I think Marzano’s research on this topic is still worth reading and deciding for yourself what you think.  Most importantly, we need to study the practice of learning, not merely the narrow notion of “student achievement”, if we are ever to know what practices are working in educational technology b/c educational technology is a dynamic practice (teaching, learning, PD, support, etc) not merely a media to be inserted into instruction.  One hopes that Marzano answers Jon’s criticism either directly or in the next part of this research.  Hopefully, waiting for Marzano wouldn’t prove to be waiting for Godot.

I’m not holding my breath. Do you know that they’ve deleted comments left on their blogs linking back to my posts?

I didn’t know that. They are doing a session on Marzano’s research at NECC. Hopefully, we get some kind of response from Marzano on this.
